You can be sure you have a relationship with God.
God wants you to have eternal life, and because of His great love for everyone, He made a way for us to have life everlasting.
“‘For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.’” - John 3:16
We have sinned against God — this is true of every single one of us.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” - Romans 3:23
Due to our sins, we deserve the payment for sin, which is death.
“For the compensation due sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 6:23
We are spiritually dead, and we’re deserving of eternally being dead and experiencing God’s wrath. Remember, though, that God loves you and doesn’t want you to die. He wants you to have life everlasting and know Him personally (John 17:3).
Thankfully, God the Father sacrificed His Son, Jesus, so that we may be saved. Jesus — being truly God and man — took on the payment of our sins and died in our place, and was raised from the dead.
“For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised up on the third day according to the scriptures” - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
So, how do you get saved? By grace through faith, not by works. To break that down,
God offers salvation as a gift that we don’t deserve, and we put our faith in Jesus. We trust in Him as our savior. You cannot earn salvation or do any works to get saved.
“For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.” - Ephesians 2:8-9
Once we get saved, we are no longer slaves to sin. We are now slaves to righteousness & obedience, and we live with Jesus as Lord. He is to be the one who is in control. He is to be the one who we obey and follow (Romans 6:8-23).
Are you considering getting saved and coming to have a relationship with God? You can read Luke 14:25-35 and consider if you are willing to become a disciple of Jesus — one who follows Him.
If you’re ready to put your faith in Jesus, below is a potential prayer you could pray to express to God your repentance from your sins and your trust in Jesus as your savior. The words themselves do not provide salvation. This prayer just contains a simple way to express your belief in Jesus.
Prayer:
“Dear God, thank you for giving Jesus so that I may have eternal life. I confess that I have sinned against you, and I turn from my sins and turn to you. I put my faith in Jesus who was raised from the dead, and I accept His death to cover the payment for my sins.
Would you please forgive me?
Thank you for saving me, giving me life, and making me right with you. Would you also please help me to live well as a disciple of Jesus, doing what you want me to do and bringing you glory?
In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”
Luke 14:25-35: “Now large crowds were going along with [Jesus], and he turned around and said to them, ‘If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and furthermore, even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, wanting to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? Otherwise after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish it, all who see it will begin to ridicule him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish!’ Or what king, going out to engage another king in battle, does not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand. But if not, while the other is still far away, he sends an ambassador and asks for terms of peace. In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all his own possessions cannot be my disciple.
‘Now salt is good, but if salt becomes tasteless, with what will it be made salty? It is usable neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; they throw it out. The one who has ears to hear, let him hear!’”
